LEGACY

Is a Curatorial Agency founded in 2021 by Heidi Erdmann. The agency is unique for its competencies in both the ARTS and LAW and works closely with legal experts. Its art-centered capacity lies with exhibitions, creating archives, managing collections and research. Ars longa, vita brevisart is lasting and life is short. Legacy collaborates with estate custodians to develop sustainable projects to preserve and promote artist’s legacies for future generations. Preserving an artist legacy can also be about identifying what an artist did not create.

  • Legacy’s debut project was presented at the Investec Cape Town Art Fair in 2022 with an exhibition of sculptures by Paul du Toit (1965 – 2014) and Bruce Arnott (1938 – 2018). Legacy returned to the fair in 2024 with a capsule version of the exhibition Being/Present.
  • Walter’s Five is an ongoing limited edition print initiative launched in October 2022 in memory of the landscape artist Walter Meyer (1965 – 2017). Three prints, Spring, Summer and Autumn have since been released. A Winter print will be released in late 2024.
  • Being/Present exhibition featured work from three important photographic archives; Pierre Crocquet (Jeannine du Venage), Jurgen Schadeberg (Claudia Schadeberg) and Grada Djeri (Jovana Djeri).
  • Legacy administers an important MENTORSHIP program. It is supported by Paul du Toit’s estate and funded through the sales of a specially produced silkscreen – Hello and Goodbye.
Presented at the Gallery at Glen Carlou. 2024.
