Is a curatorial agency that specialises in heritage and legacy projects. It was founded by Heidi Erdmann in 2021. Ars Longa, Vita BrevisArt is Lasting and Life is Short. The agency is unique for its competencies in both the ARTS and LAW and works closely with legal experts. The agency’s main focus lies with establishing archives, managing collections, curating exhibitions and conducting research. Legacy also collaborates with estate custodians to develop sustainable projects to preserve and promote artist’s legacies for future generations. Preserving an artist legacy can also be about identifying what an artist DID NOT create.

Legacy also has a physical site, Legacy Gallery which is located at Muratie Wine Estate outside Stellenbosch.

  • Legacy’s debut project was presented at the Investec Cape Town Art Fair in 2022 with an exhibition of sculptures by Paul du Toit (1965 – 2014) and Bruce Arnott (1938 – 2018). Legacy returned to the fair in 2024 with a capsule version of the exhibition Being/Present. The  exhibition featured work by three important photographic archives; Pierre Crocquet (Jeannine du Venage), Jurgen Schadeberg (Claudia Schadeberg) and Grada Djeri (Jovana Djeri).
  • Walter’s Five is an ongoing limited edition print initiative launched in October 2022 in memory of the landscape artist Walter Meyer (1965 – 2017). Three prints, Spring, Summer and Autumn have since been released. A Winter print will be released in late 2024.
  • Legacy administers an important MENTORSHIP program. It is supported by Paul du Toit’s estate and funded through the sales of a specially produced silkscreen – Hello and Goodbye.
